What happens to unused leave?

What happens to an unused limit at the end of the year depends on the setting of the particular request type — the "Reset method for the new year" field. It is set by the Organisation Administrator for every limited request type.

Three ways of resetting a limit

  • None — leave unchanged — the limit stays as it is.
  • Carryover — add to the new limit — unused days move to the new year and are added to the new annual pool.
  • Reset — full annual limit — the limit returns to the full annual pool and unused days are not carried over.

Important: The reset and the carryover happen automatically at the turn of the year — on 1 January at 5:00 (the Europe/Warsaw time zone).

Where to set it

You choose the reset method when creating or editing a request type, under Company settings → "Requests". The field appears only for requests marked as Limited.

Remember: The setting works separately for each request type — annual leave may carry days over while another limited request resets in full. Details: [Request type settings](Request type settings).
