What is the location code?

A location code is a short, unique identifier assigned to every location in your organisation. It helps tell one location apart from another when you have many — among other things when importing employees, where the system uses this code to assign a person to the right place. The field is optional, but it is worth filling in if you plan to work with data from a spreadsheet.

Where to find the location code

You will find the code in the "Basic details" settings of the chosen location.

  1. Go to the "Locations" tab in the top bar.
  2. On the chosen location click the pencil icon ("Edit location") in the row (or the three-dot menu).

  1. From the menu on the left choose the "Basic details" tab. The "Location code" field is under the location name.

Editing the code

You enter or change the code value directly in the "Location code" field and then save the changes.

  1. Enter or change the value in the "Location code" field.
  2. Click "Save".

Important: The location code has to be unique within the organisation. If you enter a code that another location already has, the system will not let you save the changes.

What the location code is for

The code makes it easier to identify a location across the system when you run several. Most often you will use it when importing employees — you enter the code in the spreadsheet and the system assigns the employee to the location with that code.

Remember: How to import employees using the location code is described in Importing employees from a file.
