Breaks at work

During a shift you can take a break and record it in Proplanum — that way your working time is counted correctly and your supervisor sees when you are resting. You start and end a break in the mobile app or at a KIOSK terminal.

The kinds of break

In Proplanum a break can be paid or unpaid — which one you record is decided by your supervisor in the location settings. You will come across two kinds:

  • A planned break — your supervisor has set it in the schedule for a particular time.
  • An unplanned break — a break with no set time, which you take when it suits you.

Remember: You will see the breaks assigned to your shift in the shift details in the schedule. How to check them is described in Checking your schedule.

Taking a break in the mobile app

You record the break on the main dashboard, where your working time is shown.

  1. Log in to the Proplanum mobile app — on the dashboard you will see your working time counting up and a marker for the next planned break.

  1. On the shift tile pick "Break".
  2. The "Shift actions" sheet will open with the breaks available. Next to the kind you want, tap "Start" — beside the name you can see the limit, for example 30 min or "No limit". An unpaid break appears only when your supervisor has enabled it in the location.

Choosing a paid or unpaid break in the mobile app

  1. A message about the break starting will appear and the clock will begin counting it. Now you have a moment to rest.
  2. After the break go back to the app and end the break in the same "Shift actions" sheet.

Stopping a running break

  1. A message about the break ending will appear and the clock will start counting your shift time again.

Caution: If you do not stop the break once it is over, the time will keep counting as overrun and will be shown in red. If that happens, tell your supervisor so they can make a correction.

Taking a break at a KIOSK terminal

If you track time at a KIOSK terminal, you start and end a break exactly as you clock in.

  1. Go up to the terminal and confirm your identity — with a fingerprint, a card, a QR code or a PIN.
  2. On the actions screen pick the "Paid break" or "Unpaid break" tile.

  1. After the break confirm your identity again and pick "Resume work".

Important: If the location has no breaks defined, or you have already used them, only finishing the shift is left on the actions screen.

Remember: The terminal as a whole is covered in the Proplanum KIOSK category, and the actions screen itself in Tracking work time in KIOSK.
