# Why does my schedule print out empty when I have shifts planned?

An empty or incomplete PDF almost always has one of two causes: the schedule has not been published, or you are exporting a different view than you think. Below are both situations and what to do.

# The schedule has not been published

The PDF export covers **published shifts only**. As long as the schedule is a draft, nothing goes into the printout — hence an empty file, even though you can see the shifts laid out on the screen.

1. Finish laying out the schedule.
2. Click **"Publish"** in the top right corner (the number of unpublished shifts is shown in brackets).
3. Only now run the **"Export"** and choose a format.

| **Important:** Only published shifts go into the PDF. If part of the layout was still a draft, the printout will be incomplete — publish the whole period before exporting. Details: [Publishing schedule changes](https://help.proplanum.com/en/article/publishing-schedule-changes-13yt17e/).

# You are exporting a different view than you think

The PDF file reflects **exactly the current view**: the chosen location, the window range (Week / 2 weeks / 4 weeks / Month) and the period you have set. If a filter narrows the schedule down to a period with no shifts, or to a location you have not staffed — the printout will come out empty.

Before exporting, check in the bar on the left:

* **"Location"** — whether the one you want to print is selected.
* the window range — **"Week"**, **"2 weeks"**, **"4 weeks"** or **"Month"**.
* the period — scroll with the ◄ ► arrows to the right week or month.

|| **Remember:** You download what you have on the screen. If you want a monthly printout or a single location — set that view and period first, then export.
