# What happens to unused leave?

What happens to an unused limit at the end of the year depends on the setting of the particular request type — the **"Reset method for the new year"** field. It is set by the **Organisation Administrator** for every **limited** request type.

# Three ways of resetting a limit

* **None — leave unchanged** — the limit stays as it is.
* **Carryover — add to the new limit** — unused days move to the new year and are added to the new annual pool.
* **Reset — full annual limit** — the limit returns to the full annual pool and unused days are not carried over.

| Important: The reset and the carryover happen automatically at the turn of the year — on **1 January at 5:00** (the Europe/Warsaw time zone).

# Where to set it

You choose the reset method when creating or editing a request type, under **Company settings → "Requests"**. The field appears only for requests marked as **Limited**.

|| Remember: The setting works separately for each request type — annual leave may carry days over while another limited request resets in full. Details: [Request type settings](https://help.proplanum.com/en/article/request-type-settings-bstwak/).
