# Time tracking and GPS location

If you want to be sure that employees record their work time at the company and not somewhere else, turn on GPS location verification for time tracking. With it the system checks whether the employee is on site at the moment they start and end a shift, and you will see the location status in the records.

||| **Caution:** These settings are configured in the browser version of Proplanum only. The roles with permission are: Organisation Administrator, Location Manager and Advisor.

# Turning on GPS location verification

You set GPS verification separately for each location, in its settings.

1. Sign in to the web version of Proplanum.
2. Choose the **"Locations"** tab from the toolbar.
3. Click the name of the location you want to edit to open its settings.

4. Go to the **"Work time tracking"** tab in the list on the left.
5. Turn on the **"Location verification when clocking"** option. Once it is on, the system will require the employee to confirm their GPS location while recording attendance in the mobile app.
6. In the **"Accuracy (in metres)"** field set the radius within which a location reading is treated as matching the company. The default is 100 m.

|| **Remember:** When a location is created the system applies default settings — GPS location verification is on by default at that point.

# Checking the location in the records

Information about where work time was recorded is in the top bar under **"RCP System"** → **"Records"**. In the **"Location"** column you will see one of these statuses:

* **Confirmed** — the location matches the company's location.
* **None** — no location was determined.
* **Other** — a location other than the company's.

||| **Caution:** Even with GPS verification on, an employee can start a shift without location switched on. In that case the entry gets the **"Other"** status.

# Benefits

GPS location verification gives you control over employees recording their work time in the right place at the right time. Because you turn it on for each location separately, you can match it to the real needs of individual sites.

|| **Remember:** The obligation to use time tracking and the sign-in credentials (PIN/QR) are set individually on the employee card — see [Configuring an employee's schedule, time tracking and group settings](https://help.proplanum.com/en/article/configuring-an-employees-schedule-time-tracking-and-group-settings-1wvcyo9/). The remaining time tracking options are described in [Work time tracking (RCP) settings](https://help.proplanum.com/en/article/work-time-tracking-rcp-settings-xme5f4/).
