# Time off in lieu in the schedule

Time off in lieu is a day off due to an employee for work on a Saturday, a Sunday or a holiday. In the schedule you mark it directly on the chosen day — by hand or automatically — and the system watches over the number of days due and the deadline for giving them. A marked day blocks shift planning, so the day off does not "disappear" while the schedule is being laid out. The feature is used by the **Manager**, the **Location Manager**, the **Advisor** and the **Organisation Administrator**.

# Before you start — turn days in lieu on at the location

Time off in lieu only works at a location where you turn it on. That is done by the Organisation Administrator or the Location Manager on the **"Planning"** tab of the location settings — they tick **"Time off in lieu"** and choose which days it concerns (for a Saturday, a Sunday, a holiday). Details: [Planning settings in a location](https://help.proplanum.com/en/article/planning-settings-in-a-location-1uls96f/).

# What the marking looks like

Time off in lieu takes up a whole day in the employee's row. The marking shows a calendar icon, an **abbreviation** (by default WD5 for a Saturday, WN for a Sunday, WŚ for a holiday) and a description of what it is due for.

|| Tip: The abbreviations on the markings (WD5, WN, WŚ) can be edited for the whole company on the [Day markings](https://help.proplanum.com/en/article/day-markings-13cu5ce/) tab. Hover over a marking and click **"i"** to see which day the time off is due for and who added it.

# Adding time off in lieu by hand

You add the day off from the shift window:

1. Click the **empty cell** where the employee and the day you want to mark intersect.
2. In the **"New shift"** window click **"Options"** at the bottom.
3. Choose **"Time off in lieu"**, then pick from the list the day the time off is due for (for example a Saturday that was worked).

The system shows only the days for which the employee is genuinely still owed time off in the current settlement period.

# Marking and removing automatically

Instead of adding days off one by one, you can lay them out in bulk. In the top right corner of the schedule click **"Options"**:

* **"Automatic markings"** — the system distributes the days owed onto the earliest free working days in the period displayed. You choose the scope: **"All"**, **"For Saturdays"**, **"For Sundays"** or **"For holidays"**.
* **"Remove days in lieu automatically"** — removes the markings for the visible employees in the displayed range, also split by type.

||| Caution: The type list shows only the kinds of time off in lieu turned on in one of the displayed locations. If a location has days in lieu only "for a Saturday", you will see that option alone.

# Abbreviations and exports

The markings go into the schedule exports (PDF, Excel) and into R2 Płatnik under the abbreviations set for the company. You change the abbreviations for days off and the working-day codes used in R2 Płatnik on the [Day markings](https://help.proplanum.com/en/article/day-markings-13cu5ce/) tab.
