# Positions and tags

Positions and tags are the foundation that work planning in Proplanum rests on. Positions determine the role an employee appears in on the schedule and whether their shifts count towards settlements, while tags let you organise the employee base by department, form of employment or qualifications. The list you create here applies to the whole organisation and will be suggested when you set up further locations.

To open the page, click **Company Settings** in the menu on the left (the cog icon at the bottom). In the settings panel that opens, pick **Positions and tags** from the **STRUCTURE** group — or type the name into **Search settings** at the top of the panel. You will find two tables there: **Positions** and **Tags**.

Each table has a **search box**, and the positions table additionally has a **location filter**. The **People** column shows how many employees hold a given position, so you know the reach of every change. The row offers the actions **Edit** and a **⋮** menu, from which you pick **Delete**.

|| Remember: after creating the account you were asked to pick positions — they became the default entries in the company configuration. You can always edit them or add new ones.

# Adding a position

1. Click the **Add position** button.
2. In the window enter the **name** of the position.
3. Pick a **colour** from the dropdown — the position will be shown in that colour on the work schedule.
4. Decide on the settings:
   - **Is included in working hours** — shifts in this position count towards settlements and employees will be paid for them.
   - **Default** — the position will be assigned to employees in a given location automatically.
5. Click **Add** to save. The position will appear on the list.

| Important: before deleting a position, check the counter in the **People** column — deleting requires confirmation and will affect the employees and the schedules the position appears in.

# Creating tags

Tags let you mark employees by the criteria you choose — department, form of employment, special qualifications and other categories.

1. Go to the **Tags** table.
2. Click the **Add tag** button.
3. Enter the **name** of the tag and click **Add**. The new tag will appear on the list.

You edit and delete tags exactly as you do positions — from the actions in the row.

|| Remember: the positions and tags you create apply to the whole organisation and are suggested as the defaults when new locations are created.
