# How does an employment template differ from an individual employee’s settings?

An employment template and an individual employee's settings describe the same things — the working conditions and the requests available — but they work at different levels. You prepare a template once and assign it to many people in bulk, which makes onboarding faster and less prone to mistakes. An employee's settings are the individual values for one person.

# The employment template

A template is a ready set of **Employment conditions** and **Available requests** that you assign to many employees at once. That way new people get consistent settings straight away, without configuring each one by hand.

- you prepare it once and use it many times
- you assign it **in bulk** to many employees
- fewer clicks when onboarding new people and less risk of a mistake

# An individual employee's settings

An employee's settings are the same conditions, but set individually for one person. You can override them even after a template has been assigned — the template establishes the starting point, and you can refine a particular person's data afterwards.

|| Once a template has been assigned you can still change a chosen employee's settings. An individual change affects only that person and does not modify the template itself.

| A template speeds up onboarding and keeps things consistent, while an individual employee's settings let you handle the exceptions.

The details of configuring templates are in [Employment templates](https://help.proplanum.com/en/article/employment-templates-1rhw5x6/). Assigning templates and groups to employees is covered in the [Team management](https://help.proplanum.com/en/category/employee-team-icid2m/) category.
